The following "Tips" will hopefully assist in your daily living.
Ceiling Sprinkler Systems
Many condos were built with ceiling sprinkler systems which have a separate water supply. Owners with this system should not turn off their furnace or electricty to the condo. When the temperature in the condo reaches freezing, the sprinkler water system could freeze and burst. If it bursts, water could cause damage to the entire building. The local Fire Department and your insurance company can support this fact. The condo where the break happened will be held liable for all damage.
Corrosive Water
I found the water to be corrosive and destructive to faucets, toilet bowls, showers, water pipes and lines, washing machine hoses, hot water heater, dishwasher and ice maker lines. We installed a water softner and filtered drinking water system.
House Dust
I installed an air purification system to our furnace, what a huge difference it made. House dust is no longer an issue.
Water Damage
Insurance companies state that broken washing machine hoses, dishwasher and ice maker water lines cause the most water damage to homes. Insurance companies recommend changing the water hoses and lines every 5 years. We changed ours and installed steel braded hoses to all appliances. Corrosive water adds to deterioration of hoses and lines.
Fireplace blowers
Many of the Fairways units come equipped with ventless fireplaces. What they did not come equipped with were blower motors. We installed a blower to push warm air out into the room and to keep the fireplace, wall and mantle cooler.
Dryer Vent
When we moved into our Patio home, the new clothes dryer did not dry clothes as it was designed. Upon investigation, the dryer vent on the outside of our unit was painted shut. Once opened up, I removed half a gallon of lint from the dryer line. This created a fire hazard and could easily have started a fire.
